About

About Blantyre Community Council

Blantyre Community Council represents the views and interests of people living across Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.

We are a voluntary, non-party-political organisation made up of local residents who care about our community and want to help make it an even better place to live, work and visit.

What we do

Our role is to listen to local people, raise issues on their behalf and make sure Blantyre’s voice is heard by South Lanarkshire Council and other public bodies.

We help to:

  • Raise local concerns with the appropriate organisations
  • Respond to consultations and proposed developments
  • Discuss matters affecting Blantyre at public meetings
  • Support community projects, groups and events
  • Share useful local information
  • Encourage residents to take part in decisions affecting the area
  • Work constructively with elected representatives, public services and community partners

Issues may include roads and pedestrian safety, planning, public spaces, local services, the environment and opportunities for community development.

How community councils work

Community councils form the most local level of statutory representation in Scotland. They are independent of local authorities but are recognised as a way for communities to communicate with councils and other public bodies.

Blantyre Community Council does not deliver council services and cannot make decisions on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council. However, we can ask questions, represent local views, highlight problems and press for appropriate action.

Our meetings

Our meetings provide an opportunity to discuss current issues, receive updates and hear from residents and invited representatives.

Meeting dates, agendas and approved minutes will be published on this website. Members of the public are welcome to attend and find out more about our work.

Get involved

The Community Council belongs to the community. We want to hear from residents throughout Blantyre, including people who have not previously been involved in local organisations.

You can:

  • Attend a meeting
  • Contact us about a local issue
  • Respond to consultations
  • Volunteer for community activities
  • Follow our updates online
  • Consider joining the Community Council when vacancies arise

Whether you want to raise a specific concern, share an idea or simply learn more, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Together, we can help ensure that Blantyre remains a connected, informed and welcoming community.

Organizing Team

Eventure is curated by a small team of designers, researchers, and ecologists who believe that technology must serve the planet — not the other way around. Working between Milan, Nairobi, and São Paulo, the team brings together local knowledge and global collaboration to shape a gathering rooted in care, creativity, and systems thinking.
We don’t just program talks — we curate experiences, relationships, and ideas that grow long after the event ends.
