6 November 2026: Objections close on proposed no-waiting restrictions at Glasgow Road and Parkville Drive, Blantyre.

Clydesmill to Strathaven electricity network upgrade
Consultation closes Tuesday 1 December 2026. SP Energy Networks is seeking feedback on initial proposals for electricity-network upgrades between Clydesmill and Strathaven.
Local drop-ins: Monday 2 November, 3–7pm at Halfway Community Hub, Cambuslang; and Tuesday 3 November, 3–7pm at Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre, Hamilton. No registration is needed.

Barnardo’s Gap Homes — Blantyre public engagement
Tuesday 10 November 2026, 1.30–2.30pm or 6.30–7.30pm. Barnardo’s is inviting local people to an update at Blantyre Miners’ Welfare Society and Social Club, Calder Street, Blantyre G72 0AU.
The early-stage proposal is for four self-contained homes for young people and one staff house providing support 24 hours a day. No planning application has yet been submitted; the site is approved in principle subject to the necessary land and planning approvals.

Glasgow Road and Parkville Drive, Blantyre — proposed waiting restrictions
Objections close Friday 6 November 2026. South Lanarkshire Council proposes prohibiting waiting at any time at the junction of Glasgow Road and Parkville Drive. The stated aim is to improve visibility, road safety and local amenity.
Anyone objecting should give their grounds in writing to the council’s Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, or email parking.unit@southlanarkshire.gov.uk, by the closing date.
Council Plan 2027–2032
The first survey closed at the end of October 2026; the council still marks the wider consultation as current, with an overall end date to be confirmed. Feedback will inform the next Council Plan, and the council says a further consultation on the draft plan is expected in early 2027.
South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture services and savings 2027/28
Closes at 12 noon on Monday 9 November 2026. South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture is asking residents which services matter most and for views on options intended to maintain health, wellbeing and sustainable services.

School Travel Plan — pupils, parents and staff
Ongoing — no closing date. South Lanarkshire Council is asking about how children and staff travel to school, with a focus on reducing car dependency and encouraging safer walking, cycling and public transport.
Scotland-wide Consultations Relevant to Blantyre
We include national consultations selectively where the subject has a clear connection to everyday life in Blantyre.
Restricting mobile phones in Scotland’s schools
Closes 17 November 2026. The Scottish Government is consulting on legislation to restrict personal mobile-phone use in Scottish schools and particularly wants to hear from pupils, parents and carers, teachers and school staff.
A new Household Recycling Code of Practice
Closes 21 January 2027. The Scottish Government is seeking views on a national framework for household waste and recycling collections, including the standards expected of councils and how services should be communicated to residents.
Price controls on essential food items
Closes 24 November 2026. The Scottish Government is consulting on draft legislation for possible price caps on certain essential food items sold by large supermarket chains.
Community engagement and large land holdings
Closes 26 January 2027. The Scottish Government is consulting on regulations and guidance requiring owners of large land holdings to engage with local communities and prepare land management plans. The questions cover meaningful engagement, community requests, maps, climate, biodiversity and how decisions should reflect local views.
UK-wide consultations: we will include these where they apply in Scotland and have a clear relevance to Blantyre, rather than listing England-only or highly specialist consultations.
Planning Applications
When someone applies for planning permission to build, extend, or change a property in Blantyre, we welcome your views. Comments help the council make decisions that reflect what the community wants.

Past Consultations
Mental Health Act Code of Practice — restraint and seclusion
Consultation closed 29 October 2026. The Scottish Government sought views on proposed guidance concerning restraint and seclusion, cross-border transfers and detention in conditions of excessive security under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
The consultation page says responses will be analysed and an analysis report published later; no outcome report is available yet.
Alcohol in designated public places: consultation outcome
Consultation closed; outcome confirmed. South Lanarkshire Council’s Executive Committee agreed on 16 September 2026 that the existing byelaws restricting alcohol consumption in designated public places should remain unchanged.
The council reports that two thirds of respondents to its six-week consultation considered the byelaws necessary and appropriate. The outcome was circulated to community councils on 6 October 2026.

South Lanarkshire Estates Strategy 2026–2036
Consultation closed. The council sought views on how it manages, improves and uses buildings and service locations over the next ten years. The proposals included investment affecting Blantyre Leisure Centre and High Blantyre Primary School. The council says feedback will be reported to the Executive Committee in October 2026.
Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy
Consultation closed in May 2025; strategy approved September 2025. SPT consulted on the future of bus services across the Strathclyde region, including proposals for bus franchising. The strategy is now in its delivery and franchising-assessment phase, so we are retaining it here as an important transport consultation and will link to future opportunities to comment as they open.
Closed consultations are kept here rather than removed, so residents can see what people were asked about and, where published, follow through to decisions or outcomes.
Public Access Defibrillator Policy
Closed 23 September 2026. South Lanarkshire Council consulted on a draft policy for making council buildings available for community defibrillators. The council says the final policy is due to be considered by the Executive Committee in November 2026.
Local Development Plan 3: Call for Sites and Ideas
Closed 18 September 2026. This consultation invited ideas and proposed sites to inform South Lanarkshire’s next Local Development Plan. The council says Issues and Actions papers, including responses to ideas received, are expected around spring 2027.
Housing Allocation Policy Review
Closed 3 July 2026. Residents and stakeholders were asked for views on the policy used to prioritise housing applications and allocate vacant council homes. South Lanarkshire Council has now published its consultation report, covering the engagement activity and feedback received. Subject to committee approval, the revised policy is planned for introduction in spring 2027.
Denominational primary school catchments — Hamilton area
Closed 23 October 2026; results to be published. The council consulted on proposed changes to the catchment areas of St Mary’s Primary, Hamilton, St Paul’s Primary, St Peter’s Primary and Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary. This wider-area consultation may be relevant to some families.
