Blantyre Community Council is your voice at the local level, representing residents’ views to the council and public bodies on issues that matter to our community.
Our Purpose
We’re a statutory body set up by South Lanarkshire Council and run entirely by local volunteers. Our core purpose is to:
- Listen to residents’ concerns and priorities
- Represent community views to the council, health services, police, and other public bodies
- Comment on planning applications and licensing matters
- Campaign on local issues and advocate for our community
- Organise events and projects that bring people together
- Keep residents informed about what’s happening locally
What We Work On
Recent and ongoing work includes:
- Planning and development decisions in Blantyre
- Road safety, traffic and transport issues
- Community facilities, leisure and services
- Environmental and green-space projects
- Events including gala days, community celebrations and lighting
- Support for local businesses and community groups
- Feedback on council services and policies
Our Statutory Rights
As a recognised Community Council, we have the right to:
- Be consulted on all planning applications in our area
- Be consulted on licensing applications
- Make representations to South Lanarkshire Council and other public bodies
- Receive an administration allowance to fund our work
- Access information and assistance from the council

Independence
We’re independent of the council, although we work with them and other public bodies. We’re run by volunteers who give their time because they care about Blantyre. We don’t represent any political party or private interest — we represent the whole community.
